Reliable Process Instrument Safety

The value of in-situ proof testing

Increase Safety and Plant Availability While Reducing Costs

Proof testing is a requirement of any Safety Instrumented System (SIS) in order to ensure that the instrumentation and associated systems are functioning as expected. There are manual methods of proof testing that require either manipulation of the process fluid or removal of the instrument in order to complete the test, and then there is in-situ proof testing. An in-situ test allows for the instrument to be tested in the actual process vessel without process fluid manipulation.

Benefits

  • In-situ proof testing requires much less time to complete than "traditional" test methods - minutes versus hours. This means a decrease in production downtime, minimizing lost revenue.

  • Risk to personnel is reduced. The exposure to hazardous products and dangerous instrument access points is minimized since the instrument does not have to be removed from the vessel.
